This book is designed to give practical insight into the workings of music-mathematics principles used in the Jamaican and Caribbean curriculum. Music has always shared its link with Mathematics after the Greek Philosopher and Mathematician, Pythagoras, researched and noted his findings on the vibration of a length of string on a stringed instrument.

This author intends to show some of her experimented teaching methods and strategies utilized for over twenty-five (25) years; the length of a pipe used to make a pipe instrument and the counted length of a ruler while singing, are examples of tools which will be used to demonstrate these principles of Mathematics in Music.

My Methodology in my lessons and direct teaching or classroom teaching uses the topic Languages of The World to introduce the concept that all learning is based on a language system. Communication is the only mode known to man for getting across ideas, hence my definition of communication in my lessons with my students, “Communication occurs when your mind receives and understand a message sent to it by whatever means and when your mind sends a message that is understood by the person who receives the message by whatever means.”
