As the Centre for Reparation Research (CRR) goes into its seventh year, its contribution to research, writing, and the dissemination of information on the global reparations movement has resulted in a more informed and engaged population in the CARICOM and wider Caribbean Region. There remain however, several questions about reparations among Caribbean people, especially what it means, how they will benefit, the form in which reparations are to be made, and who should pay reparations.
The CRR is committed to continue fulfilling its mandate to inform the public and has produced this modest publication that seeks to answer what we consider twenty of the most often asked and misunderstood questions about reparations. While it may not adequately answer all the questions posed, it is our hope that the information provided here, not only results in a basic understanding of the subject, but also contributes to an appreciation of the legitimacy and wider support of the demands being made.
In that regard, this publication is only a start. There are bound to be many other questions seeking answers and the CRR, the research arm of the CARICOM Reparations Commission established by the Heads of Government of CARICOM, is willing to engage with readers who wish to have additional information. We may be contacted at reparations.research@uwimona.edu.jm, or their national committees and advocates.
