A squeaky, leaky drug dealer, Bottle Licker, has recently turned a successful drunkard, increasing his defiantness. He finds innovative ways in downing nature's fire water, 'akpeteshie', as he roams about the village holding his demijohn in search of it at every available hidden drinking spot.

In his drunkenness, with all intents and purposes, he terrorises the neighbours with his duckwalk which is riddled with backtalks. But the village children, who always find joy ridiculing over drinkers, will never stop ‘singing praises’ behind him with their cans and drums in the street.

Bottle Licker meets Sir Sexton, a national service teacher who has been posted to Buom, a village in the eastern part of Ghana, which is carved in its secret underpinnings. He helps him to put a stop to his corrupt lifestyle.

Radio, the fork-tongued gossiper, whose mouth is like a public square soup bowl, reveals all secrets, mostly about Nana Siriboe, the wanted village chief, and an unforgiving, always-holding pitchfork native doctor who has prophesied to kill Radio for downplaying his spiritual powers.

Nana Siriboe has killed his predecessor through poisoning by the help of the native doctor to ascend the throne. The law catches up with them.

Bottle Licker and Sir Sexton uncover Inspector Bombande’s drug hawking after killing three of Bottle Licker’s drug associates. The inspector later finds a way to put Bottle Licker behind bars after he accosts him at James Town beach.

Jackie has fine womanly attributes of unsoiled beauty and respect. Bottle Licker’s heart goes out for her, nevertheless, her father pounces on him. He’ll never give his educated daughter to a retired drunkard to marry even after Bottle Licker has rescued her from a predatory hunter.

As time passes, Bottle Licker travels to the United States. His senior sister, Derina, falls in love with Sir Sexton; but other women with marriage intent don’t give him a breathing space. Will he succumb to her sexual overtures? What becomes of Jackie?

As nightfall rears its head, under the eye-catching moonlight, Inspector Bombande, in his wicked glory, storms Jackie’s residence, questioning, “Where’s that drunkard boyfriend of yours…?”
