Voices from the Past consists of five finely crafted, lyrical novels that portray the inner lives of five extraordinary people: Sappho’s Journal (which includes a preface by Sappho scholar and translator Willis Barnstone), Christ’s Journal, Leonardo da Vinci’s Journal, Shakespeare’s Journal, and Lincoln’s Journal. For the most part, little is known about the inward realities of these fascinating people, about their personal thoughts, reflections, and the quality and nature of their feelings. In Voices from the Past, the author has sought to re-create the personal worlds of each person based on extensive historical research, weaving into each novel excerpts from their writings and/or the testimony of others. Each novel can be read independently of the others, and each is beautifully written and delightfully illustrated with numerous pen-and-ink illustrations by the author, who is also a widely recognized artist. Each novel appears in its entirety within a single volume.
